The Health Insurance Law No. 23 of 2018 aims to provide health requirements for citizens and residents to achieve universal health coverage in Bahrain.

The health insurance program seeks to provide effective health services of high quality and good use of resources to obtain the best results and ensure the patient’s rights, the most important of which is his right to choose the service provider, and the opportunity for the private sector to provide basic and complementary services as a competitor to the public sector, as well as to develop a system of governance and licensing to ensure acceptable levels to provide the service, and to encourage service providers to obtain national and international accreditation certificates so as to compete with each other for the quality of the services provided.

The National Health Insurance Law, which culminated in the supreme ratification of His Majesty the King, is a historic move in the development of health services in Bahrain, where the law aims to provide an integrated health system of high quality that is flexible and sustainable, attractive to investment and guarantees freedom for all in choosing a health service provider and provision fair and competitive health services within a framework that protects the rights of all parties.
