The Supreme Committee for Treatment Abroad

The Committee is responsible for implementing the procedures and regulations for the transfer of citizens for treatment abroad, and performs the following tasks and responsibilities:

Receives cases referred from the Royal Court, the Office of the Prime Minister, the Office of the Crown Prince, the Ministry of Financial and Economic Affairs, Salmaniya Medical Complex and King Hamad University Hospital, and studies these cases to determine the need for medical treatment abroad or to receive treatment in the Kingdom or to benefit from the Visiting Specialist Program, depending on the medical condition.

Prepares the proposed annual budgets for the committee's activities and regularly reviews expenses and the number of patients seeking treatment abroad. These budgets are submitted to the Supreme Health Council for any necessary actions.

Unifying the visiting specialist doctors program in the Kingdom among all health institutions, and hire competent and experienced international medical specialists in various medical fields to handle difficult or common medical cases that are not treatable in the Kingdom, reducing the need for patients to seek treatment abroad.

Determine the number of visiting specialist doctors, their specialties, and establish an annual visiting program and present it to the council for approval, in coordination with the Higher Health Council's Strategic Training and Planning Committee.

Develop an awareness campaign to introduce the annual program for visiting specialist doctors and their specialties, and establish rules that ensure everyone benefits without discrimination, and present them to the Higher Health Council for approval and implementation.

Order the (Visiting Specialist Doctor) program through the Bahrain Defense Force Hospital and King Hamad University Hospital to reduce costs and increase revenue.

Establish guidelines and rules to ensure Bahraini doctors benefit from the (Visiting Specialist Program) in training on modern treatment techniques, increasing their experience in patient examination, diagnosis, providing appropriate treatment and performing procedures. This should be done in coordination with the Training and Strategic Health Planning Committee of the Supreme Council of Health.

Identify international medical specialty centers that can be contracted for treatment abroad and present them to the Supreme Council of Health for the purpose of negotiating joint memorandums or contracts with these centers to obtain a package of benefits and pre-agreed prices.

Issue recommendations on patient follow-up and treatment stages abroad and report on the need for continuation or follow-up.
