The National Committee for Unified Procurement of Medicines and Medical Supplies

The committee is responsible for studying requests submitted by government health entities for the purchase of medicines and medical supplies and performs the following tasks and responsibilities:

Supervision of the strategic national stock of medicines and setting performance indicators for the entity responsible for storing and distributing medicines in the Kingdom.

Ensuring proper management of the strategic national stock of medicines and the validity of disbursement procedures, establishing the necessary regulations and procedures for dispensing medicines and medical supplies.

Working to ensure the distribution of medicines and medical supplies to all public and private pharmacies under the healthcare system.

Reviewing and approving contracts for purchasing medicines and medical supplies and their delivery to the warehouses.

Monitoring the budget for medicines and medical supplies, following up on procurement and disbursement procedures, and submitting a report on them to the Supreme Health Council.

Unifying the procurement operations of government health institutions and supervising their distribution and dispensation in cooperation with the healthcare insurance fund.

Managing the budget and minimizing waste by controlling the purchasing, storage, and distribution of medicines and medical supplies through coordination with relevant parties and ensuring efficient spending and proper use of the national strategic medicine and supply stock.

Cooperating with those responsible for consumed medicines and surgical materials in government health institutions and suppliers, and monitoring the implementation of the medicine management system in coordination with the health insurance fund.

Preparing a list of essential national medicines and using it, and developing a list of essential drugs and medications that should be kept in central stock as a national strategic stock.

Conducting an annual periodic review of the medicines mentioned in the list, and making the necessary amendments to them by adding or canceling them.

Proposing the addition of any new drug to the list of essential drugs and medicines, and studying the justifications required for its inclusion.

Unifying the lists of drugs and medical supplies available in the Gulf procurement program and coordinating their purchase among different government agencies.

Working on increasing the participation rate in the Gulf Cooperation Council Unified Procurement Program under the Executive Office of the Council of Cooperation, for all drugs and medical supplies.

Unifying the list of drugs and medical supplies not available in the Gulf Cooperation Council Unified Procurement Program and coordinating their purchase among different government hospitals.

Working on developing health information systems to monitor and manage drug dispensation and studying the implementation of electronic prescriptions.
